Abstract submission has now closed.

The presenting authors of abstracts accepted for presentation at the meeting will receive a code that will enable them to register at the early bird rate until 8 May 2017. All presenters must register by this date in order for their abstracts to remain in the programme. Please use the code sent to you to qualify for this rate.

* The Endoscopy Section encourages submission of videos with a focus on novel therapies or stenting in the GI tract. If suitable they may be selected for the endoscopy video symposia.

When submitting abstracts on the online system, authors need to state:

  1. Into which category their abstract falls
  2. Whether their abstract is of a pathology, radiology or laboratory science** nature
  3. Whether the author is a nurse or an associate physiologist or another allied healthcare professional (AHP) ***
  4. Whether they are applying for a travel bursary

** Laboratory science research is conducted to understand what causes a disease, to analyze the mechanisms by which current treatments work, and to develop potential new therapies. It is done in laboratories using molecules and cells, not people. Meta-analyses are not basic science.

*** To be considered for the nursing free paper session, a nurse who made a substantial contribution to the work (not just data collection) must be an author, be involved in writing and submitting the abstract and present the oral communication. Only the nurses listed as authors will be permitted to present the oral communication / poster. Joint ventures between nurses and doctors should highlight how the work impacts on nursing practice. Abstracts accepted as posters in the nursing subcategory will be judged by both nurses and doctors.

Rules on scientific abstract presentations at BSG meetings

BSG provides platforms for oral and poster presentations of scientific findings, usually submitted in abstract form, at its annual conferences and other meetings. These presentations should focus on the presentation and discussion of scientific data and not in any way be abused for marketing or advertising purposes. Any financial support by commercial companies and any other ties to commercial companies such as employment and honoraria must be transparently disclosed. The use of brand names of commercial products should be avoided, unless the disclosure of brand names is necessary for the understanding of the abstract or presentation in which case the brand name should not be used more than once. The name of companies linked to the research should be disclosed but no company logos should be used in scientific presentations in order to avoid even the suspicion of undue promotional activities.

We recommend that you arrive a minimum of four hours prior to your presentation to submit the presentation to the Speaker Preview Room team.  Any speakers presenting in the first morning session of the day are advised to upload their presentation the day before.

Presentations will be sent electronically to the room you are presenting in, prior to your session.


Posters will be exhibited for the whole day on the day they are due for presentation in the exhibition area of the Manchester Centre Convention Complex. Posters presenters will be expected to be present at the following times:

  • Tuesday 20 June 2017 – 12:30 – 14:30 (Posters prefixed PTU) Poster judging rounds will take place from 12:30 – 13:30
  • Wednesday 21 June 2017 – 12:30 – 14:30 (Posters prefixed PWE) Poster judging rounds will take place from 12:30 – 13:30
  • Thursday 22 June 2017 – 12:30 – 14:00 (Posters prefixed PTH) Poster judging rounds will take place from 12:30 – 13:45

Space available will be 1.94m wide by 0.84m high (landscape format); the display should not exceed these dimensions. We recommend creating your poster in A0 size: 1.18m wide x 0.84m high.

Please note that the society takes a very dim view of successful abstract presenters who fail to display their poster at the conference.

Poster Presenters


If you are presenting a poster, please ensure that your poster is erected on the board corresponding to your allocated poster number by 09:30 on your presentation day. Materials to fix your poster in its allotted space will be available at the poster desk in the poster area within the exhibition area of the Manchester Centre Convention Complex. Staff at the poster desk will be able to assist you, should you require any assistance in relation to the display of your poster.

You are required to stand by your poster(s) for the entire poster round (12:30 – 14:30 or 14:00) on your presentation day. If you are presenting more than one poster, you must ensure that someone is available to answer questions on each poster, either by asking a colleague to assist you or by redirecting interested delegates to your other posters' location.

Presenters are responsible for the removal of their posters according to the following schedule: 

On Tuesday 20 June and Wednesday 21 June, please remove your poster between 17:30 and 18:00 (prior to the exhibition closing at 18:00). Any uncollected posters or poster tubes will be disposed of at 18:00.

Should your poster be presented on Thursday 22 June please remove this promptly at 14:00 prior to the exhibition closing. All posters not removed from the poster area by 14:00 on Thursday 22 June can be collected from the registration desks between 15:00 and 16:00.  Any uncollected posters or poster tubes will be disposed of at 16:00. 

Posters not removed by the specified time on the last day of their presentation will be removed and discarded by congress staff. BSG 2017 cannot accept liability for lost or damaged posters. BSG 2017 will not mail posters to authors after the meeting.
